RIP--- Our Beloved Angel Mary-Ann Sawyer
To our SMPW Family,
It is with great sadness to inform you we lost a beloved SMPW Family member today. Mary-Ann Sawyer passed away this afternoon, ending her long battle with cancer. She has been a long time key person in our SMPW family. She will truly be missed.

- Please know that SMPW is working with a collection Agency
to collect funds from all who still owe SMPW equipment.
- These items were issued to your player with the intend of them being
returned upon the end of season.
- In effort to keep future costs down, we rely on the equipment to be
returned.

In the
News:
For
instance, while the city has an extensive parks
system, it lacks public space for youth football.
Instead, she said, youth football teams must lease
high school fields at steep rates. "I want to provide
not only park space, but venues to play organized
sports," she said. "And I want it to be affordable
to our families.

recognized?
Every
year, It takes an army of volunteers to make a season run smoothly.
The hours they put in to serve so far surpasses the minimum parent
requirement, that we are truly honored to have such people in our league
with a willingness to serve. From Board members, Coaches to Team
Parents, has their been one that stands out to you? If so, please take
the time to honor their efforts by nominating them for Coach of the Year or
Volunteer of the year. Here are the forms for you to complete.
Please do so and honor those who have faithfully served your children!
Football Safety Facts & Information

Safety & Facts - Excerpt from the National
Pop Warner Website
In Pop Warner Football,
there is “an absence of catastrophic head and neck injuries and
disruptive joint injuries found at higher levels.”
The injury
rate in Pop Warner Football is:
• less than one-third the injury rate in high school football
• less than one-fifth the injury rate in college football
• less than one-ninth the injury rate in professional football
• Pop Warner's age-weight
schematic protects younger, lighter players, who do not have higher
injury rates.
• Organized football
among 5 – 15 year-olds has 12 percent fewer injuries per capita than
organized soccer in the same age range
• Organized football
among 5 – 15 year-olds has 50 percent fewer injuries per capita than
bicycle riding in the same age range.
• Organized football
among 5 – 15 year-olds has 74 percent fewer injuries per capita than
skateboarding in the same age group.
• Injuries in youth
football are normally mild, and older players have a higher injury rate
than younger players.
• The Institute of Sports Medicine and
Athletic Trauma in New York completed a Pop Warner injury survey in 71
towns covering over 5,000 players in 1998. The injury experience of
5,128 boys (8 to 15 years of age, weight 22.5 to 67.5 kg [50 to 150 lb])
participating in youth football revealed an overall rate of significant
injury of 5%, with 61% classified as moderate and 38.9% as major
injuries. That's about 1.33 per team per year. No catastrophic injuries
occurred, and it was rare for a permanent disability to result from any
injury.

Parents Code of Conduct
This code is intended to
establish and sustain a positive environment for the youth who participate in
our program and shall provide a guideline to parents and adults.
- I will not force my child or
any child to participate in youth football or cheer.
- I will assist the association
in teaching my child and others in this league that rules are important and
will instill in the child that rules are important.
- I understand that children
learn best by example and that I will always attempt to set a good example
for my child and any other children who participate or have any involvement
with SMPW.
- I will teach my child that
winning is important but that honesty and hard work are equally rewarding,
indiscriminate of whether it was accomplished in victory or defeat.
- I will teach my child that one
individual cannot win a team competition.
- I will teach and demonstrate
by example the importance of good sportsmanship in victory and in defeat.
- I will not publicly question
the honesty, integrity or judgment of the volunteer coaches or other adult
volunteers.
- I understand that verbal and
physical abuse is not to be tolerated against anyone in this league.
- I understand that racial
epithets or negative innuendo related to a person’s race, religion, or
ethnicity will not be tolerated.
- I recognize that respect among
adults is necessary for success in this league and that all adult volunteers
are entitled to respect, as are the children.
-
As a Parent, Guardian or
Spectator, I will responsibly handle disagreements. I agree not to engage in
divisive activity such as verbal and physical confrontation. I will not
create conflict by slander, malicious rumors or threats. Nor will I entice
another to do so. I agree to first submit any complaints to my local
organization and then
to the commissioner of Palomar Conference as a last resort. Complaints to
SMPW will be in writing via letter, mail or email.
